Cricket & Bella

Hi:
I do hope I've reached the success stories for the Brantford SPCA. I was having trouble sending a email through your web site.
On October 8 of this year we adopted two adorable kittens. Cricket (who is now Booger) &
Bella(who is now Nellie).
Nellie was quite wild at first and wouldn't come near us when we first brought them home. Now she is quite loving and sociable. Booger, we found seemed to be the runt of the family, but is catching up to his sister quite nicely & also loves to cuddle (at her time). We feel they would do well in a "Temptations" commercial. We shake the bag and they do come out of hiding for their treat.
They now have a new sister, a four year old shitzu, Misty. We acquired her through our vet approximately a month ago.
I hope you don't think we have forgotten you. It just took me a while to find my camera hook up so I could send pictures.
I thank you so much for your help in adopting these two bundles of fun. They are both quite comical and as I said quite smart. I follow the success stories on a regular basis, It was so nice to see that Nelson was adopted shortly after our two. I do hope he is doing well.
With Christmas approaching we were considering not putting up a tree. We took a chance and we are surprised that they don't pay too much attention to it.
Once again, many thanks.
I'm trying to send pictures (I hope this works)
I also wish for all of you a very merry Christmas and the best in the New Year.

Success Story of Hailey Veber

This is the success story of Hailey Veber

My family adopted Hailey from the Brant SPCA in the summer of 1997.
We went up to the cage where she was being held and she was standing
at attention, ready to please! She must have went through extensive
behavior training before being abandoned at the shelter because she
knew so many tricks and was so very obedient.

She had been at the shelter for a while and the staff were getting
nervous that no one would adopt her on time. They were all sad to see
her leave the shelter but were happy to see her go with a young family
with two kids that would adore her.

She's the kind of dog that would give her life for any one of us
without a second thought. She's also the mischievous puppy who would
eat green beans and other veggies out of the garden (veggies are her
favourite!).

Hailey lived out her final days with us yesterday (Dec 1st, 2010), 13
years after we adopted her. She was surrounded by those who love her.
We can never thank the staff at the Brant SPCA enough for giving us
the gift of her love!

This is Hailey's story.

Fletcher

We first visited the SPCA in October 2008 to see a dog our friends were going to adopt. While we were there we decided to take a dog on a walk. Going through the room, a midsized dog hiding in the corner caught our eye, and that's how we met our boy Fletcher.
On our walk, he was very timid, dropping and peeing instantly when we tried to pet him; but after many treats, he eventually let us and we immediately fell in love with this poor dog who had obviously been mistreated in the past.

Our next step was to bring our dog Lucki to the SPCA to meet Fletcher, the two of them became fast friends and we were all excited to add Fletcher to our family. Although still very timid, we were happy to discover he was a very well trained, very well-mannered, and very loving dog who just wanted to find his forever home.

It's been 2 years now since we added Fletcher to our family; we are convinced our yard would be over run with squirrels, lush with green grass and completely hole free if he were not here to keep things in order. He has continued to come out of his shell and has become a very playful and trusting boy. Always looking for a pat on the head and a hug, Fletcher brings us lots of happiness and love.

Due to his love of chasing critters in our yard, we were a little concerned about introducing Fletcher to the cat we brought home this winter. As I'm sure you can see from the pictures, we had nothing to worry about as Fletchy welcomed him with open paws :)

Thank you to the staff of the Brantford SPCA for taking such good care of Fletcher while he was waiting for us to find him. You are a wonderful group of people with amazing hearts, connecting animals with forever homes. We are very grateful :)

I figured you would want to know how buddy is doing. He has been a great addition to our home. His strong but loving personality has settled right into our home. He has been up north with us chasing any animal he spots. We love him very much and thank you for introducing us.

Stanley

Hello,

My name is Stanley (711385B) and I was adopted from the Brant County SPCA in the beginning of August of this year. I am currently 6 months old. I am a grey tabby. My parents found me when I was staying at Paulmacs with my sister and brother. They fell in love with my palyful personality and beautiful white and grey colouring. What can I say, I'm a pretty good catch! I am having my Mom email to thank you for helping me find my forever home with my new family.

As for my family, I have a brother named Smokey who lets me bite his ears and tackle him while he sleeps. I eat most of his food, but he does not seem to mind. We get along great! My parents names are Nicole and Hugh. They are both university students up in Ottawa; Nicole is completing her MA degree and Hugh is going back to school to become an engineer. I like to help them study by laying on their books and scratching their notes! They even made me a bed on the desk so I felt included! I just need to learn not to step on their computer keyboards. I like my new home here is Ottawa. There are tons of squirrels, chipmunks and groundhogs that I watch from the bedroom window. I can also see Parliament but I don't like when the bells ring and wake me up.

I hope other potential parents read my success story and adopt a pet like me. I know there are many cats and dogs looking for good homes and I hope they can find them. Thank you SPCA for all your help and letting me stay with you until my parents could find me. They say thank you too.

I have also attached some of my recent photos to remind everyone what I look like, although I have grown a bit.

Wilburs success story

Hi Brantford SPCA.
It is time to update you on Wilbur. How do I start to tell you about our boy. He loves his brush every morning, is becoming more of a Daddy's boy (it is the treats received from the Dad I think) is loving and even makes a point of saying hello to visitors who come in. Has discovered that the fridge holds things that he likes. Does not like the word no. He now occasionally purrs out loud. The first time we noticed the louder purr I was cuddling him like a baby and rocking him. Well I started to cry. He rules the roost, The end of July finished 3 years of love and the start of year 4 with his adoption of us. He does not like change, we bought him a bed....well he hated it. We put some catnip in , and he still was upset with.it, needless to say the bed was removed and put in a closet. surprise he liked it there, but not to sleep in just to check it out. He now sleeps mostly in behind the TV in the bedroom, he likes to help make the bed on a morning, and also likes to trash it. Each day is a new adventure and a delight with our lovely fur ball.

Thank you Brantford SPCA as you can tell he is a precious addition to our family.

Our adoption story

Hello SPCA Friends,

On September 21 we adopted a cute little Collie cross named Mooky (log 712975). Her 5 month birthday is fast approaching (Friday) and we thought an update of her story would be appropriate. It is hard to believe such a beautiful puppy had to come to the shelter but how lucky we were to find her.

On the evening of Sept 21 she arrived at our home a little laid back from the spay surgery. The next day she started getting a little more inquisitive and displaying that playful puppy we first met at the shelter. It didn’t take long for her to adjust to life in our house and her unique personality has touched our hearts and those who have met her along the way. She has had her share of incidents as a “puppy” including counter surfing, shoe relocation and a game of tag (when she has something that does not belong).

She has done well in her walks, enjoys car rides and loves to socialize with all kinds of people (and dogs of all ages) including a few sleepovers with family. She has a devilish streak in her but then again what puppy doesn’t, however one tilt of her head and she melts your heart. Mooky has quickly picked up sitting at corners during our walks, going into her crate at bedtime and sometimes sitting nicely to have her paws wiped. We are still working through the training stage to stop the nipping & jumping but she is a fast learner.

All in all, she has adjusted well to her new family and is a bundle of joy to have around. Our son is so happy to finally see his wish come true ..... a family dog to love.

Thank you so much to the SPCA for helping us find this joy and taking care of her until we were meant to be together.

We have attached a few pictures of Mooky in her happy place (her own special bed).

Sincerely,

Chris, Betty Lou & Mackenzie.

Libby's Success Story

Hello Brant County SPCA!

This is our four month update for a wonderful black DSH named Libby! Living in Hamilton, we found Libby at your satellite adoption site in Ancaster. Among the ten cats on display, Libby was easily distinguishable as she stared in jealousy at the little kittens. In fact, she didn't catch both of our attentions at first - it was only after we took her out to play that we knew she was the cat for us. We now understand her jealous stares: being a big kitty herself, she is mischievous, curious and playful, and wants nothing more than attention!

Today, after many new toys, a carpet palace, a new diet and her own spot on the bed, we are a happy family. The once quiet and soft-spoken Libby quickly turned into a very open, loving and vocal cat! Libby likes to let us know exactly how she feels every time we say her name, and she loves attention so much that you simply have to look at her to get her purring. We would like to thank Brant County SPCA for bringing her into our lives, and for your care for Libby during what she considers a transition period in her life. Libby can now look forward to a life full of love and attention because of the fine work that many people at the SPCA performed.

Sincerely,
Mike, Laura and Libby

Thank you SPCA!

Hello to the fantastic SPCA staff,

I wanted to send an update on my two boys Jack (formerly Franklin) and B.B. (formerly Aladdin )-short for Big Boss, you can see why ;) and send a thank you to the SPCA for uniting me with these two wonderful gents a whole year ago. They are doing very well, are completely inseparable and have even acquired two new friends. BB is so laid back and gets along with anyone and everyone, in fact he recently made a trip to a long term care home to visit with some of the residents for the day and boy did he looooooooove the attention. Recently, he has discovered he likes going for walks with the dogs! Our chihuahua is in love with him and whenever BB takes a nap, the chihuahua has to take one with him. Jack is as hyper as ever, he loves chasing well...pretty much anything he can bat around! I especially love the mornings and watching him sit at the kitchen window talking with the birds outside or at night when he just has to sleep not only right up against you but also under the blankets with you! He's definitely a cuddler. He also has an obsession with the tap, the sink and anything with running water in it. Often, he will lie in the sink or bat at the drips that come out after running the tap, its hilarious to watch.

Having these two boys to come home to everyday is the bet thing ever, they spend a lot of time curled up with me while I study and its so relaxing to here their purrs after a long day at school and work. I think them adopting me has been the most rewarding thing of all.

Thank you again for bringing these two into my life!

Sincerely,

Amanda Henry

Thanks

Good morning,
I would just like to say thank you for supporting my daughter when she wanted to adopt a cat.
Kelly adopted Prince William from the SPCA just one year ago. Attached is a picture of him in the lazy boy with DAD.
Kelly lives on her own in Guelph, while attending Guelph University. She is just finishing her second year and hopes to become a vet.
Emmett (alias Prince William) has been perfect for her. She always has him to come home to after her long and tiring days at the University or her part-time job.
Emmett keeps her grounded and very much is suited quite well to Kelly. They make the purrrffect.....couple.
The whole family loves him and it is great having a cat in our family once again. Our cat Simon (19 years old) had passed away two years prior to adopting Emmett.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Doreen Giles,

Alaska

Hello,

I just wanted to send a quick update on my kitty Alaska (white one in the pictures) who I adopted from the Brantford Humane Society about 6 years ago. When I first sat down with her in the little room to interact with her and see what her personality was like, she was kind of afraid, kind of saucy, and even bit me! But I knew she was the kitten for me. She had 2 different coloured eyes and extra digits on her paws. I knew some people might use that as a reason against adopting her, so I wanted to make sure this unique kitten found a good home.

It took her a few months to get used to her new home, but eventually she became very social and loves napping and nuzzling with everyone at my house. We got another cat about a year later, and now the two are inseparable. Alaska grooms Monty all the time, and they even sit on the heating vent together in the winter to keep toasty.. as shown in one of the pictures attached :)

She's doing great and we're so glad we adopted her!

Juno

Hello SPCA, here is the success story of Juno (aka Jackie) adopted April 2009:

In April 2009 we started to look for a puppy to join our family. Lucky for us, we found Juno (aka Jackie), a 3 month old shepherd mix at the Brantford SPCA. She won us over immediately with her endless kisses and playful nature. Molly (adopted Dec.2007) was thrilled to have a new playmate and we have never looked back. Now Juno is a beautiful, healthy one year old who will never grow tired of swimming and fetching balls. Her highlight of last summer was the dog beach at the Pinery where she could chase sticks and balls all day with many other canine friends, while Molly preferred to camp under the beach umbrella and hide in the sand. Juno and Molly partake in many wrestling matches and they both are a work in progress when it comes to training (doesn't walk mean run?!). Juno greets everyone equally with kisses and tail wags, like long lost friends. Thanks to everyone at the Brantford SPCA for helping make Juno a part of our family.

Sincerely, The Cooneys
