Hi everyone!

Hi Guys, it's me August (aka Brett). I just thought I should let you guys know how I am doing in my new Home. Well I am adjusting very well. The great food, long walks, toys, sleeping on the people bed etc and oh yeah lots of love has really helped me to settle in. There is another dog here. His name is Ollie. He and I have a few "sharing" issues we are working on but we like to keep each other company when our humans are gone. We both love car rides too. There are three cats that don't really like me to much but I also need to work on my manners with them (no chasing) as they are old guys and don't want play. The humans here have a little grandson I like but I have to be careful with. They also have a disabled son whom I like and he likes me very very much. I help wake him up in the morning. Well I guess that's all for now. I hope you all don't miss me too much cause as much as I appreciate ALL you did for me....I love my new "forever" fam. Be sure I am well and thanks for all your help. Love Auggie-August

AUGUST....AKA Brett

Just wanted to let u all know that August is doing great. He is high energy but I love it cause I love to walk/jog and he is a perfect partner. He is soooo lovable and had a great connection with our disabled son Jayson. He is the only dog we have ever had that actually is brave enough to be close to Jas, lol. He is wonderful and fun and lovable so thank you for giving us the privilege to adopt August AKA Brett. he is a wonderful addition to our family.

JAKE THE CAT

On June 9th we adopted Jake (formerly Jacob). He is an amazing cat. When my husband and I decided to get a cat I decided to rescue an older cat instead of a kitten. Jake is about 3 1/2. When I went to the SPCA the girl there (I wish I could remember her name) asked if I had looked at Jacob, the grey cat. I did see him but sort of just passed him by. She told me had quite a personality so we took him out and into another room where I could hold & interact with him. He purred so loud and just laid in my arms like he had no cares in the world. I had to wait 2 wks. to bring him home and was worried how he would get along with our dog Taz. There first meeting was 2 days after I brought him home, they were nose to nose and have been buddies ever since. Sometimes we have to separate them as they play a little rough and Taz is 57 lbs. He is an amazing cat, nothing fazes him. He gets along with other dogs and loves our grandkids. The only issues are he gets up around 5:30 am and thinks we should all be up. We also cannot leave fruit or vegetables out as he steals tomatoes, red peppers and apples. My husband and I joke he must have been a farm cat, up early and loves fruits and vegetables. We would like to thank the girls at the SPCA, especially the girl who pointed Jake out and want you to know he has a happy, safe and loving home.
Thank you for Jake

Success Story!

Hi there!
Here is my success story!!
On Saturday, April 30, 2011, my family and I were formally 'adopted' by our newest family member! Kahlua, a four year old tortoiseshell cat, joined our family. She had been in foster care and was featured at the Ancaster PetsMart. I am so glad I went there -- on the advice of the girls at the shelter. We had been pet-less for a year after having to put down our 10 year old Alaskan Malamute, also a successful SPCA adoption! So, after a while I thought it would be nice to have a furry family member once again. I have never owned a cat and Kahlua is an absolutely wonderful little girl. She is affectionate, likes to play and has even gotten used to our two little girls - ages 6 and 2 years. Kahlua made herself at home almost immediately. We bought her a nice new pet-bed, a new cat climbing tree and dozens of toys. For the first few nights, she slept on the foot of my bed and now she prefers to roam the house in the middle of the night, play with her toys and just generally enjoy the quiet! She is strictly an indoor kitty and likes it that way! Kahlua is a beautiful little girl and I am so thankful and grateful to the girls at the SPCA for matching us up. For our first-ever kitty, she is amazing. My family and I look forward to many, many years of meows, belly rubs, and playful nips at our feet. Thank you Brant SPCA - Kahlua has found her forever home with myself, my husband and our two little girls...
Sincerely,

Bobbi Jo Beitz

theodore

I adopted my best friend Theodore from the Brantford SPCA in June of 2009. I had recently lost my Netherland dwarf 'Henry' to stomach problems and about 3 months later I spotted an adorable lionhead at the Brantford SPCA, previously named "Jeremy". He was very saucy and spunky and was sporting what appeared to be a mullet.. he has a lot of hair! The staff were kind enough to let me meet him and play with him in a back room, though at that point he didn't want much to do with me. When I adopted Theodore, I asked where he came from, and they said he was from HENRY street. I think it's a bit more than a coincidence, and I like to think that part of why Henry passed away was perhaps because someone else needed me.

Theodore is doing very well, and has traveled with me to the many places I have lived in the past couple of years. He is VERY well behaved in cars, and loves running around our big backyard with his harness on. He loves his salads (especially dill) and would probably sell my soul for a raisin. He has come a long way since I adopted him.. he is very social and quite bold, and still very saucy. He also gets along quite nicely with my mothers dog!

I would just like to thank the Brantford SPCA for taking care of him until he came to live with me, and for all the work they do.

Nicodemus (a.k.a. "Harry)

My new friend was adopted on April 29th, 2011 at the Ancaster Pets-mart and brought to me as a BIG surprise! He came with the name of "Harry" but I renamed him "Nicodemus"; "Nicky" or "Nico" for short. Since he's my first cat all on my own, it took a little bit of time for both of us to settle into a comfortable companionship. He's is most certainly a "Personal Assistant" and he'll follow me around when I'm trying to tidy up & jump up onto the bed when I'm trying to make it. Four days in, he's already learned to not scratch up my couch and he's got me well trained in how to keep my place cat-safe.

My mom may have picked him out for me but he & I have already accepted each other. He is such a sweetie pie & loves to give kisses! Thank you so much SPCA for caring with this little boy so he could be brought into my life.

We adopted our dog Jackson from the Brantford SPCA in January of 2002, he was already 7 months old at the time and a real hand full, a play full puppy that needed a lot of loving care. He quickly adopted to his new home and surroundings and his loving family especially our daughter Michelle who picked him out at the shelter. He was always by her side as she grew up, sleeping by her bed at night and following her everywhere she went.

Jackson had many adventures with over the years, camping, swimming etc.
Over the past year Jackson became epileptic and began having seizures. With the wonderful people at Beattie Animal Hospital who looked after our previous dog Sheba for 13 years, Jackson's seizures were under control for close to a year. Sadly over the past week Jackson suddenly had a massive seizure that he did not recover from.

We are sad to inform the SPCA that he passed away at 5:30 April 28, 2011 at the age of 10 years old surrounded by his family John, Donna & Michelle at Beattie Animal Hospital.

We will continue to support the SPCA here in Brantford for the wonderful work they do in finding and placing wonderful pets like Jackson in homes. It has left a big hole in our families hearts and we will miss him dearly.

Sincerely: John Donna & Michelle Pluta

Mouse has passed. A sad day for a great Pitty story.

Hi, so many people knew Mouse that I thought her passing must be included. There are other stories about her on page 9 but this one is important...thank you.

Kela

I work at the PetSmart in Ancaster and we just had one of our many adoption weekends this past weekend. There were so many cats on Friday evening when I came into work and when everyone left at 4p.m. on Sunday there were only about 2 cats if that. I was so happy to see them all go to good homes. Even the one cat we had in out adoption center in the store. She had been with us for a few weeks and we were very glad to see her go. Everyone in the store was happy and that brought a huge smile to the lady who adopted her. She was also one of your cats. You also had 2 bunnies with you guys and Having 2 already I didn't want to get another, but there sat Kela (formerly Snowflake) a beautiful tri broken Rex. She was very timid but very pretty. I held her Friday night but thought that she shed too much. Then on Saturday morning I held her again and as I left work that evening I told myself that if she was there Sunday I would get her but then later that night I got to thinking again and thought that 3 rabbits would be a lot to handle so again i changed my mind. When Sunday came I was sure I wasn't going to get her so I left my carrier at home. I got into work and her cage had been moved so I thought she was gone, I was a little sad but a little happy at the same time. When I walked around to where her cage was I saw her again and again was stuck between a hard place and a very cute bunny who needed a good home. I asked one of the girls what time they were leaving and they said 4. My shift wasn't over till 7. I asked my manager if there was any way that I could set up a cage in the back and put her in there and he said yes. So at about 12:30 Kela(just over a year) was mine. She has been with me for almost a week and I love her more each day. She has Pancakes her Lionhead(2 years) brother and Truffle (Truffle-Bunny)[8.5 months] her Himalayan sister. They all get along great. Kela is my first shelter bunny. We got Pancakes from someone going away to college so we saved him from going to a shelter and Truffle was a meat rabbit, the smallest in the litter. I'd have to say that I think if I were to get another rabbit it would be from a shelter. But that will not be for a while.

A Precious Success Story!

Hello!

In November 2010, I went to the SPCA to see if you had any bunnies. My kids have wanted a bunny for awhile. The baby bunnies in the pet shops are so adorable – but there is a lot of cost involved for Vet bills – and you also are not sure if baby bunny will be as lovable once they are full grown.

At the SPCA, your friendly staff showed me the bunnies and I instantly wanted to cuddle a little adult Dwarf Grey Lionhead. I didn’t think that was the breed of rabbit that I was looking for - but he just won over my heart!

The kids and I played with Precious in your play area – and fell in love!

Since being in our home, Precious has settled in so happily and has brought us so much love and joy! We take him out several times a day for runs around the house and lots of cuddling. We have come to know his unique little personality and cannot imagine not having him.

We are so happy to give a forever home to an animal that really needed one. Precious has enriched our lives just as much as we have his!

WE LOVE OUR PRECIOUS!
