We adopted our dog Jackson from the Brantford SPCA in January of 2002, he was already 7 months old at the time and a real hand full, a play full puppy that needed a lot of loving care. He quickly adopted to his new home and surroundings and his loving family especially our daughter Michelle who picked him out at the shelter. He was always by her side as she grew up, sleeping by her bed at night and following her everywhere she went.

Jackson had many adventures with over the years, camping, swimming etc.

Over the past year Jackson became epileptic and began having seizures. With the wonderful people at Beattie Animal Hospital who looked after our previous dog Sheba for 13 years, Jackson's seizures were under control for close to a year. Sadly over the past week Jackson suddenly had a massive seizure that he did not recover from.

We are sad to inform the SPCA that he passed away at 5:30 April 28, 2011 at the age of 10 years old surrounded by his family John, Donna & Michelle at Beattie Animal Hospital.

We will continue to support the SPCA here in Brantford for the wonderful work they do in finding and placing wonderful pets like Jackson in homes. It has left a big hole in our families hearts and we will miss him dearly.

I work at the PetSmart in Ancaster and we just had one of our many adoption weekends this past weekend. There were so many cats on Friday evening when I came into work and when everyone left at 4p.m. on Sunday there were only about 2 cats if that. I was so happy to see them all go to good homes. Even the one cat we had in out adoption center in the store. She had been with us for a few weeks and we were very glad to see her go. Everyone in the store was happy and that brought a huge smile to the lady who adopted her. She was also one of your cats. You also had 2 bunnies with you guys and Having 2 already I didn't want to get another, but there sat Kela (formerly Snowflake) a beautiful tri broken Rex. She was very timid but very pretty. I held her Friday night but thought that she shed too much. Then on Saturday morning I held her again and as I left work that evening I told myself that if she was there Sunday I would get her but then later that night I got to thinking again and thought that 3 rabbits would be a lot to handle so again i changed my mind. When Sunday came I was sure I wasn't going to get her so I left my carrier at home. I got into work and her cage had been moved so I thought she was gone, I was a little sad but a little happy at the same time. When I walked around to where her cage was I saw her again and again was stuck between a hard place and a very cute bunny who needed a good home. I asked one of the girls what time they were leaving and they said 4. My shift wasn't over till 7. I asked my manager if there was any way that I could set up a cage in the back and put her in there and he said yes. So at about 12:30 Kela(just over a year) was mine. She has been with me for almost a week and I love her more each day. She has Pancakes her Lionhead(2 years) brother and Truffle (Truffle-Bunny)[8.5 months] her Himalayan sister. They all get along great. Kela is my first shelter bunny. We got Pancakes from someone going away to college so we saved him from going to a shelter and Truffle was a meat rabbit, the smallest in the litter. I'd have to say that I think if I were to get another rabbit it would be from a shelter. But that will not be for a while.

A Precious Success Story!

Hello!

In November 2010, I went to the SPCA to see if you had any bunnies. My kids have wanted a bunny for awhile. The baby bunnies in the pet shops are so adorable – but there is a lot of cost involved for Vet bills – and you also are not sure if baby bunny will be as lovable once they are full grown.

At the SPCA, your friendly staff showed me the bunnies and I instantly wanted to cuddle a little adult Dwarf Grey Lionhead. I didn’t think that was the breed of rabbit that I was looking for - but he just won over my heart!

The kids and I played with Precious in your play area – and fell in love!

Since being in our home, Precious has settled in so happily and has brought us so much love and joy! We take him out several times a day for runs around the house and lots of cuddling. We have come to know his unique little personality and cannot imagine not having him.

We are so happy to give a forever home to an animal that really needed one. Precious has enriched our lives just as much as we have his!

Hi:

I do hope I've reached the success stories for the Brantford SPCA. I was having trouble sending a email through your web site.

On October 8 of this year we adopted two adorable kittens. Cricket (who is now Booger) &

Bella(who is now Nellie).

Nellie was quite wild at first and wouldn't come near us when we first brought them home. Now she is quite loving and sociable. Booger, we found seemed to be the runt of the family, but is catching up to his sister quite nicely & also loves to cuddle (at her time).We feel they would do well in a "Temptations" commercial. We shake the bag and they do come out of hiding for their treat.

They now have a new sister, a four year old shitzu, Misty. We acquired her through our vet approximately a month ago.

I hope you don't think we have forgotten you. It just took me a while to find my camera hook up so I could send pictures.

I thank you so much for your help in adopting these two bundles of fun. They are both quite comical and as I said quite smart. I follow the success stories on a regular basis, It was so nice to see that Nelson was adopted shortly after our two. I do hope he is doing well.

With Christmas approaching we were considering not putting up a tree. We took a chance and we are surprised that they don't pay too much attention to it.

Success Story of Hailey Veber

This is the success story of Hailey Veber

My family adopted Hailey from the Brant SPCA in the summer of 1997.
We went up to the cage where she was being held and she was standing
at attention, ready to please! She must have went through extensive
behavior training before being abandoned at the shelter because she
knew so many tricks and was so very obedient.

She had been at the shelter for a while and the staff were getting
nervous that no one would adopt her on time. They were all sad to see
her leave the shelter but were happy to see her go with a young family
with two kids that would adore her.

She's the kind of dog that would give her life for any one of us
without a second thought. She's also the mischievous puppy who would
eat green beans and other veggies out of the garden (veggies are her
favourite!).

Hailey lived out her final days with us yesterday (Dec 1st, 2010), 13
years after we adopted her. She was surrounded by those who love her.
We can never thank the staff at the Brant SPCA enough for giving us
the gift of her love!

Fletcher

We first visited the SPCA in October 2008 to see a dog our friends were going to adopt. While we were there we decided to take a dog on a walk. Going through the room, a midsized dog hiding in the corner caught our eye, and that's how we met our boy Fletcher.
On our walk, he was very timid, dropping and peeing instantly when we tried to pet him; but after many treats, he eventually let us and we immediately fell in love with this poor dog who had obviously been mistreated in the past.

Our next step was to bring our dog Lucki to the SPCA to meet Fletcher, the two of them became fast friends and we were all excited to add Fletcher to our family. Although still very timid, we were happy to discover he was a very well trained, very well-mannered, and very loving dog who just wanted to find his forever home.

It's been 2 years now since we added Fletcher to our family; we are convinced our yard would be over run with squirrels, lush with green grass and completely hole free if he were not here to keep things in order. He has continued to come out of his shell and has become a very playful and trusting boy. Always looking for a pat on the head and a hug, Fletcher brings us lots of happiness and love.

Due to his love of chasing critters in our yard, we were a little concerned about introducing Fletcher to the cat we brought home this winter. As I'm sure you can see from the pictures, we had nothing to worry about as Fletchy welcomed him with open paws :)

Thank you to the staff of the Brantford SPCA for taking such good care of Fletcher while he was waiting for us to find him. You are a wonderful group of people with amazing hearts, connecting animals with forever homes. We are very grateful :)
